CeBIT 2008: MATERNA puts ITIL V2 and ITIL V3 in the spotlight
MATERNA at the IBM exhibition booth
Dortmund, 2008-02-11
MATERNA is showcasing its know-how in IT service management according to ITIL V2 and V3. With “Service Excellence” MATERNA has developed a professional and modular IT service management consulting methodology for developing IT organisations into proactive service organisations. One central component of this maturing process is the design and introduction of change and configuration management together with a configuration management database (CMDB) as a cross-sectional function for all ITIL processes. The CMDB consolidates the information islands within the IT department and maps service structures and components. In this way negative impacts caused by changes can be reduced, the IT infrastructure can be planned more effectively and the IT services can be mapped onto the business services (business-IT-alignment). MATERNA is presenting an iterative model for the modular introduction of a CMDB. These ITIL solutions from MATERNA can be seen at the main IBM booth (hall 2, booth A 109).
The lifecycle model is at the heart of the new ITIL V3: services are planned throughout the complete lifecycle and the performance continuously improved for internal or external customers. Using a CMDB supports this approach as it is a link between the ITIL disciplines and provides up-to-date status information about IT services – whether as applications, components or processes. According to the latest IT service management survey from MATERNA already 66 percent of around 160 IT decision-makers who took part in the survey want to investigate ITIL V3. The survey also showed that today as many as 76 percent of the companies asked already align their IT management service processes to ITIL.
MATERNA is showcasing a specific example of how the IBM discovery tool TADDM, the CMDB from IBM, and change management interact according to the service lifecycle in ITIL V3. This showcase illustrates how even an unauthorised change can be transformed into a norm process.
