Hewlett-Packard and MATERNA strengthen IT Management partnership

Service Automation in Focus

Dortmund, 2009-12-16

At the HP Software Universe 2009, the IT provider MATERNA GmbH and Hewlett-Packard GmbH, one of the world’s leading technology producers, announce that they are going to extend the partnership they started last year. MATERNA’s main focus here is on the BTO portfolio (Business Technology Optimisation) from HP. The two partners complement each other particularly well in the fields of IT Service Management, Business Service Automation and Business Service Management.

Service Automation ready to go

In future MATERNA intends to continue to extend its position in the service automation segment. HP offers a wide range of products in this field, for example, for automation in data centres and automation for networks and clients. “Now, more than ever, companies have to reduce costs, minimise risks and increase their speed – and automation is the best way to do it”, says Dr. Thomas Wiese, Head of Sales Channel and Commercial Business at HP Software & Solutions. “MATERNA has excellent IT process know-how and can thus help customers to introduce automation solutions quickly and with low project risks.”

Nowadays, orientation to ITIL® is seen as a must for almost all data centres. The next evolutionary step on the way to achieving an efficient, competitive data centre is service automation. Automation is found at almost all IT levels – for servers, clients and storage, in networks as well as in applications. Typical automated activities include server and application provisioning, provisioning of user-resources as well as change and configuration management.

Within this context, service automation is a comprehensive solution which combines IT service management tools and operative activities into one efficient process throughout the organisation. Service automation helps to systematically eliminate error situations during the provisioning of IT services and ensures continuously high quality levels for process results. Service automation reduces the pressure on data centre staff, for example with mass operations or error-prone routine activities. In this way service automation pays a significant contribution to fulfilling IT compliance requirements.

MATERNA implements service automation solutions on the basis of HP products in the following areas: server automation, client management, storage automation, virtualisation, network infrastructure automation and operations orchestration. With the help of orchestration mechanisms, IT line managers can overcome the silos within their IT. But this does demand that change and task operations are orchestrated throughout.

HP solutions complement MATERNA’s consulting method

MATERNA accompanies their customers in the field of IT management from process consulting and technology selection through to implementation and integration in existing IT infrastructures. These services are provided by MATERNA with their Service Excellence brand. Service Excellence is a professional and modular IT service management consulting method which supports customers on the way to achieving strategically structured and value-adding IT. Service Excellence takes the integrative dimensions of processes, organisation and technologies into account. The common element connecting the three dimensions is IT management.

More and more customers contract MATERNA to support them with creating invitations for tenders, carrying out proofs of concept (PoC) and with tool selection. As a manufacturer-independent full service provider MATERNA thus maintains partnerships with all the leading manufacturers in this market segment. The HP products supplement the MATERNA portfolio very well, enabling them to advise customers who, for example, have already decided to use HP products or those who already use them.
