“X Factor” SMS competition: MATERNA Communications implements mobile marketing campaign for bonprix

Additional discounts draw in participants

MATERNA Communications is running an SMS competition for the Hamburg-based trading company bonprix related to the reality talent show “X Factor”, which has been broadcast on VOX since August. As well as attractive prizes, the campaign offers participants additional discounts on their bonprix purchases.

As a sponsor for the current “X Factor” television show, bonprix is offering its target group its own “X Factor Collection” with fashionable t-shirts and various marketing campaigns. For the first time, the retailer is also using an SMS competition as part of its mobile marketing strategy aimed at winning over consumers and promoting sales.

Over several weeks, posters will appear in the 70 or so bonprix shops throughout Germany with a new competition question every week related to the “X Factor” show. Participants send their answer by SMS to a short code number and receive with their confirmation message a 10 percent discount voucher for their bonprix purchase sent to their mobile phone. Vouchers can then be redeemed in the shop. The attractive weekly prizes include an X Factor t-shirt, an iPod Nano and tickets to the live shows. The winner of the main prize can look forward to a trip to the final show, t-shirts and EUR 1,000 spending money.
