Desktop Virtualisation by MATERNA
In Desktop Virtualisation the complete desktop PC, and not just individual components or applications, is virtualised and made available centrally. This still relatively new concept is based on well-established Virtualisation technologies. Desktop Virtualisation provides a series of advantages: the personal desktop is available quickly, requires almost no effort at the user’s, and can be accessed from anywhere. Existing hardware can be used for longer, new client hardware is as a rule cheaper to buy and there is a more flexible choice. Updates and new software can be introduced more effectively. Virtual desktops are also very convincing when it comes to security: the virtual machines are isolated in the data centre, data is stored centrally and backups are made centrally too.
MATERNA provides its own solution’s concept in the field of Desktop Virtualisation: This is an innovative service for IT departments enabling them to provide their customers with virtual desktops. Such an IT service comprises the provisioning, management and operation of desktops – whether these are PCs, thin clients, netbooks, notebooks or other mobile devices. MATERNA advises organisations on how Desktop Virtualisation can be implemented – while considering the existing infrastructure components and the organisational environment.
MATERNA utilises market leading Virtualisation platforms from their partners for the technical implementation, such as Citrix, VMware and Microsoft. In addition to that MATERNA have their own supplementary management products in their portfolio such as DX-Union for client management. The advantage of DX-Union is that it administers virtual and physical desktops in heterogeneous landscapes from one central administration desktop. The virtual IT environment also benefits from the central DX-Union functions: e.g. the user and rights administration.
We are pleased to present our Desktop Virtualisation showcase – a scenario which combines the different components and points out the implementation possibilities.
