Service Automation
Controlling and automating complex IT environments
Service Automation transforms isolated automations into uniform and automatic provisioning of IT services. In almost all data centres and in most customer environments, isolated automation islands have existed for a long time, running tedious routine tasks without any need for manual intervention.
However, the point is that we have to recognise, describe and automate business processes and IT services sensibly so that quality improves, the company remains flexible and costs are reduced. Typically, Service Automation should therefore use well-known Service Management parameters as a starting point. Breaches in service levels, serious incidents and mass-errors, known problems, capacity bottle-necks and ponderous or error-prone changes are all good indicators and starting points for Service Automation.
Automatable processes have to be described and implemented well beyond the limitations of silos. One significant requirement for achieving fast success with Service Automation is to have experienced consultants who can contribute their extensive knowledge. Using suitable tools, they can transfer the company’s business process requirements directly into the automation.
Our solutions for Service Automation
Service Automation is a comprehensive concept for managing all the components in an IT infrastructure from the company services’ perspective.
- Server Automation
Server Automation includes, for example, the automation of changes on server systems and automated server set up. This creates quality improvements during operations, saves time, reduces risks and supports compliance plans. MATERNA provides consulting and implementation services for this, e.g. with assessments for evaluating the processes to be automated, the development of an implementation strategy, implementation and introduction of Server Automation tools and support with setting up reference environments.
Client Management
Client Management automates the provisioning and maintenance of end user systems, applications and operating systems while considering user roles and internal company guidelines. Fast, standardised provisioning and administration of client systems saves costs, leads to improved quality of operations and satisfied users. MATERNA provides consulting and implementation services for these areas, e.g. workshops, administrator training, integration services, support for rollouts and maintenance. In addition to this, MATERNA can also supply DX-Union, its own market leading tool for Client Management.
Storage Automation
Storage Automation describes concepts for optimising and monitoring the storage infrastructure in heterogeneous landscapes. The aim of Storage Automation is to create cost efficient storage solutions. The agreed service level and impacts on performance and business processes have to be taken into account here. MATERNA, e.g., carries out assessments, creates backup and recovery strategies, implements Storage Automation solutions and runs performance tests.
Virtualisation
Virtualisation enables data centres to decouple themselves from physical hardware and automates administration tasks. This makes it possible to achieve manageable environments which use hardware cost effectively and to increase the flexibility of server and storage systems. MATERNA provides, e.g., assessments of hardware utilisation and the business impact of services as well as the design and generation of automated and dynamic Virtualisation solutions for servers, clients, storage and applications.
Network Configuration Automation
Network Configuration Automation automatically configures and administers complex network infrastructures from different manufacturers. The solution controls and checks configuration changes in the overall network infrastructure. From a central point, it defines, checks and ensures that internal company rules and other regulations and guidelines about network security are followed. Simultaneously it can recognise, evaluate and repair potential security gaps in the network. This ensures sustainable compliance which increases staff productivity, prevents critical system failures and automates manual system updates. For this MATERNA, e.g., offers reviews of your network configuration, identifies consolidation targets and supports the network design and introduction of suitable solutions.
Operations Orchestration
Operation Orchestration coordinates and automates complete processes which could impact on several IT Service Management tools and solutions from different manufacturers. Existing IT tools are not substituted, nor are the automation functions of these tools replaced. On the contrary, the actions of these tools are integrated and coordinated. Error prone, manual routine actions for operating one or more tools can be dropped. MATERNA provides, e.g., qualification and awareness workshops, assessments of IT operations, support with defining release management and quality assurance processes and ROI calculations.
