System Management

System Management – mainstay of IT

In the spirit of all-encompassing IT business alignment, System Management makes a major contribution to ensuring the high availability, security and performance of the IT. It forms one of the supporting pillars of modern information technology. It enables, for example, errors to be recognised at an early stage, to deliver important data for the problem management and to provide significant figures for the Service Level Management. The evaluation and correlation of events makes it possible to proactively avoid incidents, to carry out efficient cause analyses and is also necessary in order to be able to make and maintain service level agreements for business-critical services.

One of the biggest challenges is to coordinate business processes and IT. The following have to be determined:

  • Does the IT know the impact which errors in the infrastructure have on critical business processes (impact management, i.e. understanding – cause – impact)?
  • Do the needs of the business correspond to the (IT) capacity planning and which indicators are used to define the quality of service agreements?
  • Are service agreements measured and recorded objectively and understandably?
  • How up-to-date and appropriate are the figures on which planning decisions are based?

Our solutions for System Management

System Management describes the centralised administration of an organisation’s IT infrastructure

  • Business Impact Management

Business Impact Management visualises the connections between the different IT services in an organisation. Services are brought into connection with the underlying hardware, software and components, and are then prioritised. This coupling of business processes with IT services optimises investments and ensures constantly available and relevant business services. MATERNA provides for this with e.g. analyses for potential hardware failures and the impacts these would have on applications and/or business processes as well as with analyses for creating a real time service impact model with relation to priorities, security, role-specific views and actions, compliance aspects and CMDB-dependencies. MATERNA also provides support for setting up the visualisation concepts.

  • Performance Management

The aim of Performance Management is to collect the performance data and to measure it against the threshold values which have been set. The threshold values first have to be defined. This then makes it possible to determine trend data with regard to resources utilisation, to make early decisions on whether to upgrade or exchange components and to identify bottlenecks precisely. MATERNA provides solutions and services for the Performance Management areas of end to end monitoring, application monitoring, server monitoring and network monitoring. These include, for example, assessments, architecture design, and support with determining threshold levels as well as the implementation of suitable tools.

  • Event Management

Event Management recognises IT problems and performance irregularities, points out the causes, works out the impacts on the company and includes comprehensive report generating functions. In this way the solution minimises failure times, shortens the mean time to repair (MTTR) and improves operative efficiency and availability. MATERNA provides support here to e.g. identify IT problems and performance discrepancies, to ensure availability of business services and to establish a reporting architecture.

  • HiPath Integration Solutions

MATERNA also provides their own special solutions for integrating Siemens HiPath telecommunication systems in higher level IT Management platforms as well as MATERNA System Management solutions.
