Solutions for efficient IT-based processes
The figures speak for themselves: 43 billion sales transactions, a 10% market share, and around 50% of the population doing it regularly – in 2014 the German online shopping market was among the world’s top 5 (source: Wirtschaftswoche, March 2015). To cater for this demand the retail and logistics sectors have to present the consumer with a standardized and appealing shopping experience, both online and offline. Whereas the customer is primarily looking for a positive shopping experience of the standard they have come to expect from market leaders such as Amazon, the companies themselves are first and foremost interested in perfectly coordinated processes that enable them to handle their online sales efficiently and create an experience that satisfies their target audience.
For many years now Materna has been helping its customers to meet these challenges with a full service that begins with design and consulting and extends to the development, implementation and support of turnkey solutions.
For instance, with Materna’s support the major mail order company, OTTO, keeps its customers up to date with texts and emails informing them of special offers, as well as newsletters, sweepstakes, price alerts and much more besides, in order to achieve lasting customer loyalty. We also assist Otto with its software development and search engine optimization (SEO).
Goods ordered online then have to be delivered to the customer by fast and reliable parcel delivery services like DHL. Materna took care of setting up DHL’s online portal for business and private customers – so that the delivery of the goods runs as smoothly as the original purchase itself.
The focus was entirely different at Sonepar, the leading online wholesaler for electrical goods with around 500,000 items in its product range. Here, Materna carried out a large-scale architecture review to ensure that the technology behind Sonepar’s online shop would continue to meet with the demands of the company’s rapidly growing market share over the next few years.
