Materna acquires TraffGo Road

Know-how in the field of mobility solutions further expanded

location Dortmund, Date 2022.01.05

With effect from December 22, 2021, the Materna group has acquired the Krefeld-based company TraffGo Road GmbH, which specializes in IT solutions for processing traffic data. Materna is successfully active in the market for mobility solutions and, together with TraffGo Road, has already developed the Verkehrszentrale Deutschland (VZD) for the Autobahn GmbH of the Federal Government, which will coordinate traffic management nationwide in the future - together with the eight other traffic centers. With the acquisition of TraffGo Road, Materna is sustainably expanding its position in this market segment and addressing customers such as federal authorities, state administrations as well as cities and municipalities in a joint market approach.

"TraffGo Road has highly specialized know-how in the mobility solutions environment, which we are using to further expand our portfolio in a targeted manner, such as in the direction of geoinformation systems and floating car data analysis. We will jointly further strengthen TraffGo's very good market and partner network in line with our partner ecosystem," explains Martin Wibbe, CEO of the Materna group.

"TraffGo Road GmbH has earned a good reputation in many projects over the last 20 years. As part of the Materna group, TraffGo can focus primarily on the strategic and content-related development of its portfolio," says Dr. Joachim Wahle, managing partner of TraffGo Road GmbH, explaining the sale.

TraffGo Road GmbH was founded in 2001 by Dr. Joachim Wahle. The company develops intelligent IT concepts and IT solutions for municipalities and state administrations in the field of multimodal traffic information as well as for the automated preparation, evaluation and visualization of large traffic databases. The Krefeld-based company repeatedly picks up on innovative concepts and implements them, for example with the payment pilot to pay "parking tickets" directly on the move via PayPal or other payment services. Since October 2021, TraffGo has been operating smart loading zones (Project Smala) for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, where delivery trucks can pre-book short-term parking spaces.

TraffGo Road works for customers such as the Autobahn GmbH of the German federal government, the Berlin Senate Department for the Environment, Transport and Climate Protection, and transport ministries of various German states. For Smartparking, an initiative for digital parking management, TraffGo Road manages cell phone parking in over 250 cities in Germany and Austria.

Materna further expands mobility solutions

Innovative traffic concepts require a variety of data from a wide range of sources. To enable the various players - from the German Federal Ministry of Transport, state authorities, municipalities and private associations to rail operators, logistics companies and the automotive industry - to exchange their data for mutual benefit, innovative IT solutions are needed to intelligently process, prepare and visualize the data. Materna is already successfully active in this market for mobility solutions and is strengthening its commitment through the acquisition of TraffGo.

One of Materna's most important projects in the mobility solutions environment is the mobility data marketplace, through which the various players such as the federal government, federal states, local authorities and private providers can exchange traffic information for their mutual benefit. Another project is the Traffic Center Germany, which has been online since December 2021.
