IT service provider strengthens focus on GRIP² corporate strategy

location Dortmund, Date 2024.05.21

The Materna Group has announced the sale of its subsidiary, Materna IPS (Intelligent Passenger Solutions), to SITA. This decision reflects the dynamic changes in the aviation industry and allows Materna to focus more on its strategic goals. The divestment will provide the company with resources to effectively implement its core strategy GRIP2.

The Materna Group focuses on innovative solutions in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to position itself at the forefront of technological change. With the help of the Materna Generative AI Factory, pioneering AI applications are being realized, especially for the public and commercial sectors. At the same time, the company emphasizes the importance of data economy and resilience.

In order to consistently pursue its strategic priorities, the Materna Group has sold its subsidiary, Materna IPS (Intelligent Passenger Solutions), to SITA after four years of successful independence and a doubling of sales. The sale to SITA, the global leader in technology solutions for the air transport industry, not only furthers Materna's development plans, but also supports the growth ambitions of Materna IPS.

Michael Hagedorn, CEO of the Materna Group, explains: “Our main focus is on consistently implementing our GRIP2 corporate strategy. Our central goals are to increase sales to one billion euros by 2027 and to further consolidate and expand our market-leading position through the use of AI. The planned sale of Materna IPS will enable us to strengthen our core competencies and at the same time create new growth opportunities for Materna IPS.”

Dr. Georg Oschmann, Managing Director of Materna IPS, is optimistic about the new partnership with SITA and emphasizes the opportunities for innovation and growth: “This strategic partnership is an important milestone on our path and opens up new opportunities for innovation and growth. Together with SITA, we look forward to further advancing our mission to simplify air travel for passengers and deliver even greater value to our customers worldwide.”

This transaction is expected to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approvals. The Materna Group was advised on this transaction by LBBW M&A as exclusive financial advisor.
