The airline TUI won three awards at the Real IT Awards (RITA) in London, on 17 May 2018, for the significant service improvements achieved by installing its Self-Service Bag-Drop application at Gatwick Airport. Materna Integrated Passenger Services (IPS) developed the automated check-in and bag-drop systems on behalf of TUI and implemented the self-service project with Gatwick Airport (LGW).

Canada’s Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL), just like Toronto Airport, is now utilizing automated baggage handling from Materna intelligent passenger solutions (ips) ready to meet the needs of substantial increases in passenger numbers. A total of 16 self-bag-drop kiosks have been in operation at YUL since November 2018. Materna ips installed the solutions and is also providing operational support for the next three years. Tokyo International Airport (HANEDA), Japan’s fastest growing airport by passenger numbers, has increased its capacities through new terminal extensions. The 4th biggest airport in the world commissioned the Japanese provider Toyo Kanetsu K.K. (TKK) and the German provider Materna IPS (Intelligent Passenger Solutions) with the provision of a unique self bag drop solution at the Terminal 2 international facilities and in Terminal 3.

Turnover at the internationally active Materna Group grew by a good 14 percent to reach 254 million Euros in the 2017 business year (turnover 2016: 223 million Euros). Denver International Airport (DEN) opens the United States’ largest Self-Bag Drop (SBD) installation in cooperation with United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Materna IPS – our subsidiary specialized in solutions for automated passenger handling for airlines and airports.

Materna is very satisfied with the first half of 2019. In comparison to the same period in the previous year, turnover for the group has grown by 7.9 percent to 149 million Euros. Adjusted by the effects of the sale of Message Mobile GmbH on 1st April 2019, they have even achieved growth of 9.2 percent. EBIT grew at an above average rate by 34 percent to 14.7 million Euros (previous year 10.9 million Euros). The biggest drivers behind this growth are solutions for the public sector and SAP consulting services for internationally active industrial companies. Recruitment is still working well too: the Materna Group’s total number of staff has topped 2,200 for the first time, with more than 160 additional employees compared to June last year.

Tim Thomas (40) has taken over the vacant position of Senior Vice President Marketing & Communications at IT consulting company Materna Information & Communications SE as of January 1, 2022. In this role, he expands the Executive Management Board of the Materna group and reports to CEO Martin Wibbe. Tim Thomas was previously Executive Vice President Marketing & Communications and a member of the management board at the market companion msg group in Munich.

Having made a record turnover of EUR 355.1 million in 2020, the Materna group now presents its growth strategy for the next five years.

With effect from December 22, 2021, the Materna group has acquired the Krefeld-based company TraffGo Road GmbH, which specializes in IT solutions for processing traffic data. Materna is successfully active in the market for mobility solutions and, together with TraffGo Road, has already developed the Verkehrszentrale Deutschland (VZD) for the Autobahn GmbH of the Federal Government, which will coordinate traffic management nationwide in the future - together with the eight other traffic centers. With the acquisition of TraffGo Road, Materna is sustainably expanding its position in this market segment and addressing customers such as federal authorities, state administrations as well as cities and municipalities in a joint market approach.

The Materna Group is continuing to pursue its Mission 2025 strategy, strengthening itself in the cyber security sector and has acquired 100 percent of the company RADAR Cyber Security with effect from 23 September 2022. With the purchase of the Vienna-based cyber security specialist, Materna completes its portfolio in the focus area of cyber security and sustainably expands its capacities and delivery capability in this important market segment.

Internationally active IT consulting company Materna Information & Communications SE closed the 2020 business year, after the challenges due to Corona, very successfully and even achieved a record group turnover. The provisional group turnover for 2020 amounted to 355.1 million euros.

In comparison to the previous year, this represents an increase of 13.5 percent, which has almost exclusively resulted from organic growth.
